STRUCTURE OF THE INTERMEDIATE IRON(0) COMPLEX ISOLATED FROM THE DINITROGEN FIXING SYSTEM LiPh + FeCl3

The structure of the complex Fe⁰(LiPh)4(Et2O)4, active towards dinitrogen, reveals a flat rectangular structure formed by carbon atoms of four phenyl rings linked by ?-bonds with Fe⁰ atom.The comparatively short interatomic distance between two carbon atoms of phenyl rings indicates some interaction between them.The possible mechanism of the reaction with N2 is considered.
