High pressure synthesis techniques were used to prepare ThB//1//2 and HfB//1//2. These compounds have the cubic UB//1//2-type structure with lattice parameters 7. 612(1) A and 7. 377(2) A respectively. The relationship between the lattice parameter for UB//1//2-type dodecaborides and the coordination number 12 radius of the metal atom differs for lanthanide, actinide and transition metal atoms. The prediction is made that it is possible to prepare AmB//1//2 at high pressures.
