Preparation of 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(hexylsulfonyl)

7 D. Wohrle, D. Schlettwein, G. Schnurpfeil, G. Schneider,
By utilizing the procedure described above using Zn[Pc-
(SC6H13)8] (15.5 mg, 0.01 mmol) instead of Cu[Pc(SC6H13)8] as
starting material, compound Zn[Pc(SO2C6H13)8] (3) was
obtained after repeated chromatography with CHCl3 as the
eluent followed by recrystallization from CHCl3 and MeOH as
blue powder (10.8 mg, 59%).

Preparation of 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(hexylsulfonyl)
phthalocyaninato copper complex Cu[Pc(SO2C6H13)8] (2) by
insertion metal ion into H2Pc(SO2C6H13)8
A mixture of H2[Pc(SO2C6H13)8] (1) (43.6 mg,0.022 mmol) and
Cu(OAc)2$H2O (30.2 mg, 0.15 mmol) in DMF (5 mL) was
heated at 150ꢃ for 3 h under nitrogen. After being cooled to room
temperature, the mixture was evaporated to dryness under
reduced pressure and the residue was chromatographed on
a silica gel column using CHCl3 as the eluent. The blue band
containing the target compound (2) was collected. Repeated
chromatography followed by recrystallization from CHCl3 and
MeOH gave blue powder (40 mg, 88.6%).
