One-Pot Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Poly(alkoxysilane)s Catalyzed by Silver-Gold Complexes
during the dehydrocoupling, confirmed by SEM analysis.
For the higher concentration of alcohol to hydrosilane the
larger size (30∼50 nm) of nanoparticles were observed.

coupling of hydrosilanes with alcohols. Thus, although
we could not identified the presence of Ag–Au bimetal-
lic alloy nanoparticles by HRTEM, we still believe that
such Ag–Au bimetallic alloy might accelerate the catalytic
reaction. The unidentified materials were believed to be by
products from the redistribution of aryl or alkoxy groups

cles in minor. Such Ag–Au bimetallic alloy might accel-
erate the catalytic reaction despite no concrete evidence.
This is an effective one-pot synthetic procedure with con-
siderable synthetic flexibility for the preparation of a
wide variety of functionalized poly(alkoxysilane)s using
silver salt as a catalyst and gold chloride as a cocata-
lyst. The dehydrocoupling reactions of phenylsilane with
ethanol (1:3 mole ratio) in the presence of the mixed
catalyst produced only triethoxyphenylsilane. Thus, the
ratio of hydrosilane to alcohol is very important to con-
trol the type of products and polymer chain length from
the dehydrocoupling of hydrosilane with alcohol. The
ratio also affects the size of metal nanoparticles, lead-
ing to the bigger particle formation with larger ratio of
alcohol.
