A general and efficient method for the synthesis of optically active cis-4-amino-3-hydroxy-substituted heterocycles (1-4) has been developed through desymmetrization of a C₂-symmetric cyclic sulfate chiron prepared from catalytic asymmetric dihydroxylation of 1,4-dichloro-trans-2-butene.
