The effect of sorbed hydrogen held as HxMOS2 on the catalytic activity for H2-D2 exchange, hydrogenation of propene, olefin metathesis, and cyclopropane isomerization have been studied over unsupported microcrystalline MoS2.Comparable experiments were made over sulfided molybdena-alumina and over reduced molybdena-alumina catalysts (where this activated high-temperature form of chemisorption has been called HR).The results all correlated. The presence of Hx (or HR) inhibited or poisoned H2-D2 exchange, olefin metathesis, and cyclopropane isomerization but enhanced the activity for olefin hydrogenation.Possible interpretations of these results are presented.
