N-Acyl-7-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one derivatives were prepared from N-acetyl pyrroles via a [4 + 2] cycloaddition reaction with allenes. This represents a new synthetic approach for the synthesis of epibatidine and related analogs.
