The Equilibrium Reaction of the Luminol Radical with Oxygen and the One-Electron-Reduction Potential of 5-Aminophthalazine-1,4-dione

The kinetics of the redox reaction of one-electron-oxidized luminol with molecular oxygen has been studied with chemiluminescent techniques.The rate constants of the forward and reverse reactions have been determined to be 550 +/- 100 and (2.5 +/- 1.6)E9 M^-1s^-1, respectively.These values afforded the one-electron-reduction potential of 5-aminophthalazine-1,4-dione with E⁰ = 240 +/- 20 mV vs.NHE.
