CONCLUSIONS
Th e results of th is study in dicate th at ACF filters can be
readily used for particulate m atter an d Hg con trol. Th e
pressure drop ch aracteristics agree well with th eoretical
prediction s for fibrous filters. Th e resistan ce factor, R, for
th e ACF filter was estim ated to be 2.01, close to th ose
obtain ed for cake filtration in HEPA filters. However, th e
theoretical predictions for the particle collection efficiency
did n ot m atch th e experim en tal results, possibly because
of n on un iform ities in th e differen t fibers. Th e m easured
particle collection efficien cies were h igh er th an th e pre-
dicted values.

Th e poten tial of th e ACF filters to capture Hg was
also illustrated. Th e Hg capture capacity was con sisten t
with th at reported for activated carbon powders. ACF fil-
ters offer a practical way to use activated carbon in in dus-
trial system s for Hg an d particulate m atter capture with a
low-pressure drop.
