A unique symmetrical diphenylmethane derivative, 1,1-bis-(3',5'-dimethyl-2'-hydroxyphenyl)-2-methylpropane, was isolated from the root bark of Metasequoia glyptostroboides; it inhibited the growth of some bacteria.
