Palladium-catalyzed arylation of allylic diols: Highly selective synthesis of phenyl-substituted allylic diols

The coupling reaction of iodobenzene with allylic diols in the presence of Pd(OAc)₂ and nBu₃P as catalysts using K₂CO₃ as base afforded the phenyl-substituted allylic diols. However, under the same reaction conditions with Et₃N as base, phenyl-substituted α-hydroxy ketone was obtained.
