It has been well established that 4-hydroxypyrimidine
derivatives undergo tautomerism in solution to establish
equilibrium mixtures consisting of one (or more) of the three
possible tautomers. Whereas a majority of the crystal
structures deposited in the Cambridge Structural Database
exist as the (3H) tautomer, the situation in solution can be
entirely different. In fact, the dynamic equilibrium between
tautomers is generally solvent-dependent, as has been
