Composition of the Complexes of Reagents 3 and 4
The ratio found for the complexes of reagent 3 by
the methods of extraction-photometric saturation and
conductometric titration is [M(II)] : [HL] = 1 : 2. The
composition of the complexes is similar to the compo-
sition of 1. The six-membered ring is formed due to
the covalent bond between the metal atom and the
nitrogen atom of the sulfonylamide group and the
donor–acceptor bond with the М(II) ion via an oxy-
gen atom [15] [МL2] (4):

Based on the analysis of IR spectra and the results
of elemental and thermal analyses for the preparatively
separated NMs(II) complexes of reagent 4, it has been
established that Cu(II) forms the complex [Cu(HL)2 ⋅
2Н2О] at pH ~ 6–9. The ratio of compounds found by
the methods of saturation and conductometric titra-
tion for the Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes at pH > 9 is
[M(II)] : [H2L] = 1 : 1. We have not managed to give
an unambiguous interpretation to the results of analy-
ses and IR spectra for the 1 : 1 complexes in a solid
state. It seems that reagent 4 is partially hydrolyzed at
pH ≥ 9 [18] to form complexes of different composi-
tion.

Hence, the introduction of hydrophilic groups to
the third position of the thiophene ring increases the
solubility of nonferrous metal complexes in water in
comparison with the reagents with an ester group.
