SiD2, generated via the laser flash photolysis of phenyl<(2)H3>silane, has been detected via a ro-vibrational transition in its <*>(1B1)<--<*>(1A1) absorption band.It has been monitored for the first time in time-resolved studies to give an absolute rate constant of (3.8+/-0.2)E-12 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 for the reaction SiD2 + H2.Product SiH2 from this reaction was also observed.
