COMPLEX FORMATION OF CYCLOMALTO-OCTAOSE WITH TETRABROMOPHENOLPHTHALEIN AND SOME RELATED COMPOUNDS

The interactions of cyclomalto-octaose (γ-cyclodextrin) with some phthalein-type acid-base indicators have been investigated photometrically.Bromine substituents enhance the formation of complexes and tetrabromophenolphthalein <3,3-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxyphenyl)-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one> forms the most stable complex (K 6.0 x 1E3).This stability and other phenomena suggest that the host and guest are involved in a three-site interaction.
