The reaction of and an excess of LiI with ^- gives crystallographically characterized .This reacts with C5H5NO to give a high yield of the γ-lactam .The corresponding reaction of with excess LiI and ^- gives (also crystallographically characterized) rather than a carbene complex.Keywords: Molybdenum; Carbene; Epoxides; Group 6; Isocyanide; Heterocycle
