Novel Ru(II) complex-based hybrid inorganic-organic materials immobilized via a diamine co-ligand site instead of the conventional diphosphine ligand have been prepared. The complexes were prepared by two different methods: sol-gel and surface modification techniques. The structures of the desired materials were deduced by several available physical measurements like elemental analyses, infrared, FAB-MS and 1H-, 13Cand 31P-NMR spectroscopy. Due to a lack of solubility the structures of xerogel 3 and modified 4 were studied by solid state 13C-, 29Si- and 31P-NMR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and EXAFS. These materials were stable enough to serve as hydrogenation catalysts. Selective hydrogenation of functionalized carbonyls in α,β-unsaturated compounds was successfully carried out under mild conditions in a basic medium using these complexes as catalysts.

The photoinduced chemoselective transfer hydrogenation of unsaturated carbonyls to allylic alcohols has been accomplished using cluster-based MOFs as bifunctional visible photocatalysts. Assemblies of hexanuclear clusters [Cu6(dmpymt)6] (1, Hdmpymt = 4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-2-thione) as metalloligands with CuI or (Ph3P)CuI yielded cluster-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) {[Cu6(dmpymt)6]2[Cu2(μ-I)2]4(CuI)2}n (2), {[Cu6(dmpymt)6]2[Cu2(μ-I)2]4}n (3), respectively. Nanoparticles (NPs) of 2 and 3 served both as photosensitizers and photocatalysts for the highly chemoselective reduction of unsaturated carbonyl compounds to unsaturated alcohols with high catalytic activity under blue LED irradiation. The photocatalytic system could be reused for several cycles without any obvious loss of efficiency.

Sequential Two-Step Stereoselective Amination of Allylic Alcohols through the Combination of Laccases and Amine Transaminases

A sequential two-step chemoenzymatic methodology for the stereoselective synthesis of (3E)-4-(het)arylbut-3-en-2-amines in a highly selective manner and under mild reaction conditions is described. The approach consists of oxidation of the corresponding racemic alcohol precursors by the use of a catalytic system made up of the laccase from Trametes versicolor and the oxy-radical TEMPO, followed by the asymmetric reductive bio-transamination of the corresponding ketone intermediates. Optimisation of the oxidation reaction, exhaustive amine transaminase screening for the bio-transaminations and the compatibility of the two enzymatic reactions were studied in depth in search of a design of a compatible sequential cascade. This synthetic strategy was successful and the combinations of enzymes displayed a broad substrate scope, with 16 chiral amines being obtained in moderate to good isolated yields (29–75 %) and with excellent enantiomeric excess values (94 to >99 %). Interestingly, both amine enantiomers can be achieved, depending on the selectivity of the amine transaminase employed in the system.
