The mixtures of axially chiral (aR,S)- and (aS,S)-biscarboline alcohols were firstly used as catalysts in enantioselective 1,2- and 1,4-transfer hydrogenations of ketimines and β-enamino esters, respectively. This mixed axially chiral catalysts exhibited

The Buchwald-Hartwig C-N coupling reaction has found widespread applications in organic synthesis. Over the past two decades or so, many improved catalysts have been introduced, allowing various amines and aryl electrophiles to be readily used nowadays. However, there lacks a protocol that could be used to couple a wide range of chiral amines and aryl halides, without erosion of the enantiomeric excess (ee). Reported in this article is a method based on molecular Ni catalysis driven by light, which enables stereoretentive C-N coupling of optically active amines, amino alcohols, and amino acid esters with aryl bromides, with no need for any external photosensitizer. The method is effective for a wide variety of coupling partners, including those bearing functional groups sensitive to bases and nucleophiles, thus providing a viable alternative to accessing synthetically important chiral N-aryl amines, amino alcohols, and amino acids esters. Its viability is demonstrated by 92 examples with up to 99 % ee.

A series of chiral cyclometalated iridium complexes have been synthesised by cyclometalating chiral 2-aryl-oxazoline and imidazoline ligands with [Cp?IrCl2]2. These iridacycles were studied for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions with formic acid as the hydrogen source and were found to display various activities and enantioselectivities, with the most effective ones affording up to 63% ee in the asymmetric reductive amination of ketones and 77% ee in the reduction of pyridinium ions. An efficient protocol for the hydroboration of imines is reported. Lithium halide salts are effective catalysts to convert aldimines and ketimines to their corresponding amines. Here, we report excellent isolated yield of secondary amines (>95%) using 3 mol% lithium bromide in THF at room temperature. In addition, DFT calculations for a plausible reaction pathway are reported.

, p. 3830 - 3838 (2020/11/13)
Several types of β-ketoamino based N,O-coordinate half-sandwich ruthenium complexes have been synthesized in moderate to good yields. The stable ruthenium complexes displayed good and diverse catalytic efficiency in reductive amination between aldehydes and amines in aqueous solution. The method gave a facile route for one-pot synthesis of diverse complicated amines with a low catalyst loading by using cheap and less-toxic HCOOH or clean H2 as hydrogen source. Catalyst Ru1 showed the highest catalytic activity of 190 h-1 TOF value in the reductive amination reaction of benzaldehyde with aniline. The corresponding amine products were furnished in excellent yields under the standard catalysis system. The efficient and diverse catalytic activity, broad substance scope, mild conditions, and environmentally benign solvent made this system potentially applicable in industrial production. Ruthenium complexes were characterized using NMR, elemental analysis, and IR techniques to confirm their structure.

A series of axially chiral biscarboline-based sulfones were synthesized from L-tryptophane and applied for enantioselective 1,2-transfer hydrogenations of ketimines using trichlorosilane. The catalyst 4e, which had a tertiary butyl group, exhibited a good conversion and high enantioselectivities up to 96%ee in the series of reactions.

A visible-light-induced copper-catalyzed intermolecular hydroamination of alkenes using commercially accessible primary and secondary amines has been established. This effective method exhibits good tolerance of a broad range of functional groups and provides a facile access to an array of valuable amines with Markovnikov regioselectivity. The process can be positively expected to be used in bioactive amines, and it may provide new potential in the discovery of copper-catalyzed hydrofunctionalization reactions.

[FeIII(TF4DMAP)Cl] can efficiently catalyze intermolecular sp3 C-H amination using aryl azides and intramolecular sp3 C-H amination of alkyl azides in moderate-to-high product yields. At catalyst loading down to 1 mol %, the reactions display high chemo- and regioselectivity with broad substrate scope and are effective for late-stage functionalization of complex natural/bioactive molecules.

Axial N-O alcohols, which have two large carboline moieties connected to the axis were synthesized and used in catalytic enantioselective 1,2- and 1,4-transfer hydrogenations of total 26 ketimines and β-enamino esters. Excellent levels of enantioselectivity ranging from 91% to 99% were achieved by using catalyst (aS)-(S)-3,3′-bis((S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carbonyl)-9,9′-dimethyl-9H,9′H-[1,1′-bipyrido[3,4-b]indole] 2-oxide. Interestingly, a mixture of (aS)-(S)-3,3′-bis((S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carbonyl)-9,9′-dimethyl-9H,9′H-[1,1′-bipyrido[3,4-b]indole] 2-oxide and (aR)-(S)-3,3′-bis((S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carbonyl)-9,9′-dimethyl-9H,9′H-[1,1′-bipyrido[3,4-b]indole] 2-oxide was also able to provide high enantioselectivities up to 95% that is the same as that using pure (aS)-(S)-3,3′-bis((S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carbonyl)-9,9′-dimethyl-9H,9′H-[1,1′-bipyrido[3,4-b]indole] 2-oxide. A plausible catalytic mechanism was suggested and total four kinds of transition states (TS) including almost 60 TS structures were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) with different basis sets such as 6-311G(2d,p). The predicted activation energy data are consistent with the experimental results. (Figure presented.).
