In the complex PdL2 (HL = 4-butylphenyl 2-pyridyl ketone oxime), characterised by spectroscopic techniques and X-ray diffraction analysis, the deprotonated ligand displays a N,O coordination, with the pyridyl nitrogen and the oxime oxygen, which is without precedence in this class of compounds; 1H NMR spectra, together with structural data on PdL2, make it possible to distinguish between the N,O and N,N coordination mode in analogous compounds.
