Two antibacterial biphenyls from rhynchosia suaveolens

Two new biphenyls characterized as 4-(3-methyl-but-2-enyl)-5-methoxy-[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-ol 1 and 2-carboxy-4-(3-methyl-but-2-enyl)-5-methoxy- [1,1′-biphenyl]-3-ol 5 have been isolated from Rhynchosia suaveolens. Both compounds displayed antibacterial activity.
