A chiral pyridylphosphine ligand (2R,4R)-2,4-bis[di-3′-(2′,6′-dimethoxypyridyl)phosphino]pentane was synthesized. The rhodium catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-(6′-methoxy-2′-naphthyl)propenoic acid was studied by using this ligand in comparison with the structurally similar Skewphos analogs.
