The PMR spectra (60 MHz) of several aryl and substituted-methyl thiourea derivatives are reported. In the para-substituted aryl derivatives, the observed aromatic proton chemical shifts agree well with calculated values using −0.03 ppm for both the ortho- and meta-substituent constants of the —NHCSNH— group. In the substituted-methyl derivatives, the —NHCSNH—group was found to have a Shoolery constant of 2.6 ppm. The —NH chemical shifts in the arylthioureas are related to the Hammett substituent constant of the para-substituent. The origins of the chemical shifts are discussed.
