On the electronic structure of new ternary selenides of samarium

The new compounds NaSm2Se3 and MSm8Se12 (M Na, Ca) were prepared by reduction of Sm2Se3 with sodium and calcium respectively. Synthesizing the educt, single crystals of Sm2Se3 in the U2S3-type structure were obtained for the first time. All compounds were characterized by chemical analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. The electronic structure of the selenides was investigated by magnetic measurements and band structure calculations.
