The precipitation of cadmium from aqueous solution using 1,3,4-Thiadiazole-2,5-dithiol (cas 132120-63-9)

The title reagent (TDH2) has been used to precipitate cadmium from aqueous solution. The rate of extraction is rapid (12ca. 2 min). A Scatchard plot has two clear regions which have values K1 = 7.2 × 106 (n̄1 0.038) and K1 3.2 × 106 (n̄2 0.29). The first region is probably associated with (Cd TDH)+NO3 solid− formation and the second with (Cd TD)n (a polymer). Clear regions are seen even though the equilibrium constants are comparable. Related polymeric and amine compounds are unable to extract cadmium efficiently and it appears likely that polymer (CdTD)n formation is crucial to the extraction process.
