Szilard-Chalmers process for osmium from hexachloroosmate(IV) targets

A Szilard-Chalmers concentration of Os191 has been achieved from targets of (NH4)2 OsCl6. Recoveries with enrichment factors greater than 10 were attained by a nitric-acid distillation separation of OsO4 following irradiation. The separation was shown to depend upon the relative kinetics of nitric-acid oxidations.
