Tricoordinate complexes of lead(II) with innocent Schiff base ligands

The interaction of lead(II) perchlorate hydrate with Schiff base ligands resulted in the formation of unexpected complexes wherein the ligand is coordinated in an “innocent” fashion. These compounds were characterised by 1H NMR, IR and single crystal X-ray studies. These reveal an unprecedented binding mode for these ligands, where some of the apparently available binding sites are not used, and the lead(II) displays a low coordination number.
