The hydrogenolysis of carbon tetrachloride to chloroform, and of trichlorofluoromethane to hydrodichlorofluoromethane, are catalysed by the complexes RuCl2(PPh3)3 and RuCl2(dppe)2. The conversion of carbon tetrachloride into chloroform is more complete than the conversion of trichlorofluoromethane into hydrodichlorofluoromethane.
