The adsorption of silver diammine (cas 16972-61-5) complexes on carbon surfaces has been investigated. Well-characterized carbon supports with known active surface area have been used. The silver complex is adsorbed on edge carbon sites which are part of the active surface area. Once adsorbed the complex decomposes and forms metallic silver aggregates. The reduction of the silver cation to the metal occurs by consumption of a part of the ammonia present in the complex. A significant amount of silver can be deposited on a carbon by this method.
