The interactions between dopamine hydrochloride (DH) and nicotinamide (NA) in aqueous solution were studied using CV, NMR and quantum chemistry calculations. According to the cyclic voltammetry and the 1H NMR spectra, it was found that the hydrogen bond and π-π stacking between DH and NA were the main interactions, for which the predominant interaction varied with the ratio of NA to DH. The structures of NA-DH+ complexes were optimized by the quantum chemistry calculation, which confirmed above interactions, as well as the existence of CH-π interaction in NA-DH mixtures.
