The 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl group was used to N-protect 3,4-diphenyl 1,2-thiazetidine 1,1-dioxide derivatives. It is smoothly eliminated by 2,3-dichloro 5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone (DDQ), the yield depending on the substituents of the 3-phenyl ring.
