Inhibition of radical polymerization of MMA by monomer and polymer derivatives of 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethanol (cas 17003-75-7)

Calorimetry has established that on radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate the isobutyric, methacrylic and polymethacrylic acid esters of 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethanol are inhibitors with activity equal within the limits of experimental error. The mean rate constant of inhibition kx = 37·5±4·31.·mole−1·sec−1 at 333 K, the rate constant of regeneration on the inhibitor radical Kr is of the order 10−21.·mole−1. It is concluded that the double bond in the acid fragment and the polymer state of the inhibitor have no influence on the inhibitory capacity of the fluorodinitroethyl fragment.
