The preparations of a number of new thiocyanato-, acetato- and fluoborato-complexes of zinc(II), cadmium(II) and mercury(II) with thiomorpholin-3-one tm and thiazolidine-2-thione ttz are described and the i.r. and far i.r. spectra are reported. A correlation between the frequencies of the MNCS, CS and CN stretching vibrations and the NCS bending vibration with the stereochemistry of the compounds is presented. The i.r. spectra of a number of compounds containing varying types of co-ordinated acetate ions were compared and correlations found between the carboxyl stretching frequencies and structure. These correlations were used to assign structures to the new compounds. The tetrafluoroborate group results monodentate coordinate as confirmed by a lowering of simmetry (Td → C3v).
