The sublimation pressures of triphenyl aluminum Al(C6H5)3 in the temperature range 432 to 477 K have been determined from simultaneous measurements of the rate of mass effusion and the torsional recoil. The measured vapor pressures expressed by the equations:log10(PKpo) = (14.66±0.48)−(9.015±0.217) × 103(KT)log10(Pτpo) = (14.58±0.68)−(8.950±0.311) × 103(KT), where pK and pτ are the pressures measured by the Knudsen-effusion and torsional-recoil techniques, respectively, and po = 101.325 kPa, confirm that triphenyl aluminum is a monomer in the vapor phase in the temperature range of the measurements. The standard molar enthalpy and entropy changes for the sublimation process: 12{Al(C6H5)3}2(cr, 455 K) = Al(C6H5)3(g, 455 K), are ΔsubHmo = (172 ± 5) KJ·mol−1 and ΔsubSmo = (280 ± 7) J·K−1·mol−1. The standard molar enthalpies and entropies, of sublimation of triphenyl aluminum monomer: Al(C6H5)3(cr) = Al(C6H5)3(g), and of dissociation of the solid dimer: {Al(C6H5)3}2(cr) = 2Al(C6H5)3(cr), are estimated.
