1. A method has been developed for maintaining nervous tissues of the decapod crustacean, Palaemonetes varians (Leach), in organ culture.2. Radioactive tracers were used to measure choline uptake, acetylcholide synthesis and the distribution of radioactivity amongst the various choline metabolites. After one day of culture the concentrations of radioactive acetylcholine were conparable to in vivo levels.3. Initial rates of choline uptake have also been measured.4. Results are compared with those reported for both higher and lower aninals.
