Competition between sigma-participation by C$$$-Cγ and pi-resonance by ∝-aryl group could be illustrated from the decreasing of (Z)/(E) rate ratios with increasing electron releasing of aryl substituent in the solvolysis of titled substrates. Product studies gave rise to the question about the efficiency of the tool of borohydride trapping.
