The liquid crystal cholesteryl 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy) ethyl carbonate was found to be cholesteric up to 32°C, the cholesteryl 2-(2-methoxyethoxy) ethyl carbonate smectic, and the cholesteryl 2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethyl carbonate cholesteric below −1°C. Our results do not confirm the inversion of rotatory power found by Durand.
