In this work, the effect of hygrothermal ageing on the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of a carbon fiber-reinforced rosin-based epoxy resin bio-composite was experimentally investigated. The specimens were manufactured from carbon/rosin epoxy 2.2 twill weave prepreg material. The ageing tests were conducted according to standard EN 2823:1998 under conditions 70 °C/85%RH until the saturation level. Three-point bending tests were conducted according to standard EN-2563 on unaged and aged specimens. The average measured ILSS of the unaged bio-composite, 62.33 MPa, is well within the range of the ILSS values of twill-weave carbon-fiber reinforced plastics. The mass uptake due to moisture absorption ranges from 1.3 to 2.7%. The moisture absorption has led to the reduction of the ILSS of bio-composite specimens by 4.8% in average. All specimens failed due to excessive delamination caused by interlaminar stresses. Overall, the bio-composite material has shown a good resistance to ageing both in terms of water absorption and reduction of ILSS.
