Publisher SummaryThis chapter discusses the diatrizoic acid. Diatrizoic Acid is 3,5- diacetamido - 2,4,6 triiodbenzoic acid. Chemical abstracts listings are under the heading benzoic acid, 3,5 – diacetamido – 2,4,6 – triido. Among the generic and trivial names for this compound are urografin acid. Diatrizoic Acid is a white, odorless and tasteless crystalline powder. The sodium salt is colorless and odorless its taste is reported as both weakly salty and slightly bitter. The methylglucamine salt is colorless, odorless and has a slight sweetish taste. Diatrizoic acid is chemically stable at room temperature. Sodium diatrizoate dissolved in dimethylformamide can be litrated potentiometrically with perchloric acid in dioxane.
