To prepare coarse-grained tungsten carbide powder, it is necessary to choose large-sized initial tungsten powder and carburize at a higher temperature for a long time. Moreover, there are still lots of cracks in the particle due to the agglomeration by primary grains. In this article monocrystalline tungsten carbide grew in carbon saturated cobalt melt. After removing the impurities, the monocrystalline tungsten carbide powder was characterized by scanning electron microscope and selected area electron diffraction. Compared with the ordinary tungsten carbide, the obtained powder was monocrystalline (5–20 µm) and has few visible cracks, which could apply to the rock drilling cemented carbide.
