Synthesis and distribution kinetics in animals of [α-11C] 3,4-Dimethoxyphenethylamine (cas 120-20-7)

3,4-dimethoxyphenethylamine (3,4-DMPEA), a product which was found in the urine of schizophrenic patients, was labelled with 11C from hydrogen cyanide as a precursor. The best conditions were selected, this synthesis was carried out in 45 min with a radiochemical yield of 40%. In order to study the kinetics distribution in animals, a saline solution of 11C-DMPEA, HCl was intravenously injected in mice and in rabbits positioned under a gamma camera. The most radioactive organs are the kidneys, the lungs and the liver. Also exchange kinetics across the blood-brain barrier are very rapid but may be studied in spite of the short half-life of the 11C nucleus.
