mycobactin (cas 1400-46-0) J 1 is a commercially available siderophore isolated from Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis. There are discrepancies between previous reports of its structure and none have addressed its absolute configuration. We report here the complete structure and stereochemistry of mycobactin J, along with methodology to enable the determination of the absolute configuration of other mycobactins on a small scale.
