1.1. The recognition of DNA by gene regulatory proteins is often mediated by structural motifs that comprise a protein DNA-binding domain.2.2. Although binding of these proteins to DNA is not itself sufficient to affect transcription it is a necessary prerequisite.3.3. This review summarizes recent studies that define structural motifs for DNA binding function of eukaryotic transcription factors.
