The oxidation of soterenol and subsequent reaction of the substituted o-quinoneimine in acidic media were studied by cyclic voltammetry, flow-through coulometry, liquid chromatography combined with electrochemistry and fluorescence spectroscopy. The methanesulfonamide group is readily hydrolyzed following oxidation leading to products identical to those produced from oxidation of isoproterenol.
