Spectrophotometric determination of diltiazem hydrochloride with Sodium metavanadate (cas 13718-26-8)

A spectrophotometric method for the determination of diltiazem hydrochloride has been developed. The drug is boiled with sodium metavanadate in sulfuric acid medium (11.0 M) for 20 min and the absorbance is measured at 750 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed up to 50 μg ml−1 with R.S.D. of 1.07% and molar absorptivity, 6.18×103 l mol−1 cm−1. The method was applied to the determination of the drug in commercial tablets and capsules.
