Primidone (cas 125-33-7) is an anticonvulsant drug and is indicated for the treatment of seizures and essential tremor. The proposed anticonvulsant activity of primidone and its active metabolite, phenobarbital, is by enhancing inhibition via the GABAA receptor. The antitremor mechanism of primidone is not known; however, there is evidence that GABAergic system and the GABAA receptors play a major role in regulating motor activity.
