A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 6-difluoromethylenephosphonyl-phenanthridines through visible-light-promoted radical difluoromethylenephosphonation of 2-isocyanobiaryls with bromodifluoromethylphosphonate has been developed. The reaction allows the direct formation of Csp2CF2PO(OEt)2 and CC bonds via a proposed tandem radical cyclization process.
