SummaryThree species of Didymium, D. nigripes, D. difforme and D. squamulosum, have been grown in culture and have produced sporangia on a solid synthetic medium.Some observations on the effect produced by external conditions, more especially by moisture conditions, on the development of sporangia containing viable spores are discussed.The fusion of gametes of D. difforme takes place in the motile swarm-spore stage.The process of fusion, both in mono-and multispore cultures, as seen in vivo under the microscope, is described.Plasmodiocarps have been obtained from three successive generations in monospore cultures of D. difforme on Knop agar.These results prove that the spores of D. difforme are bisexual, and that sex segregation must occur at some division after the germination of the spore.Our present knowledge of nuclear behaviour and sex segregation in the Mycetozoa in general is discussed.
