Add time:07/17/2019 Source:sciencedirect.com
The cis and trans isomers of 2-benzoylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid interconvert in refluxing alkaline solution with accompanying exchange of hydrogen in the 2-position and with retention of one asymmetric center. The photochemical conversion produces inactive trans acid from optically active cis acid and occurs in a hydroxylic with no hydrogen exchange. A diradical mechanism is admissible for the photochemical process.
