(United States of America).Chemicals with cas numbers 556-99-0 and 57-13-6 also play role. CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: A23K003-00. NCL: 426053000. APPLICATION: US 81-272687 11 Jun 1981. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Stored crops for feed are protected against microbial growth by application, in the presence of urease [9002-13-5] (at >0.05% of the NH3 compn.) of a liq. compd. comprising NH3, urea [57-13-6], and urea polymers (biuret [108-19-0], triuret [556-99-0], cyanuric acid [108-80-5], or urea cyanurate [57517-11-0]) which decomp. to form NH3. The compd. after spray application has both immediate and delayed activity, i.e. NH3 is released to maintain a level of 0.5% by wt. in the treated material. Thus, a compn. contg. 10% NH3, 40% urea, 2% biuret, and 0.05% urease in water reduced the mold and the bacterial counts when applied to 300 g corn contg. 25% moisture so that the NH3 content of the corn was 0.8%. These redns. in mold and bacterial counts were ~1 order of magnitude greater than that obtained with an aq. NH3 soln. The prepn. may be handled safely, is non-toxic to animals, and provides protection against loss due to microbial growth. .
