  • Improper Vitamin Supplement May Cause Poisoning
  • Nowadays, many people eat a variety of health care products every day to supplement vitamins to their body. However, experts point out that when people supplement vitamins, they should pay attention to the appropriate way and the moderate amount. Otherwise it may cause poisoning.

As we all know, vitamins are essential for human body, however, most of them can not be synthesized by the body itself, so they must always be obtained from the food. However, daily diets are difficult to ensure the adequate intake of vitamins, because the vitamins are easily lost in the processing, storage and cooking process of the food. For example, a lot of water-soluble vitamins will be lost if the vegetable is over-soaked. Therefore, on the basis of a reasonable diet, it is better to supplement a certain amount of vitamins to the body.

In fact, the amount of vitamins needed by the body is really very small. For example, a normal person only needs 2500-3000 international units of vitamin A and 300-400 international units of vitamin D every day. Therefore, vitamins are necessary, but if they are supplied too much, it will easily lead to poisoning.

Generally speaking, water-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin B and C, can be excreted out of the body with the urination. So they will seldom cause poisoning. But if you add too much fat-soluble vitamins (including vitamin A, E, K, D), it will easily cause toxic reactions. For example, improper use of vitamin E can cause high blood pressure and breast cancer. Excessive intake of vitamin C will destroy the vitamin B12 stored in the serum and body. As a result, when you supplement fat-soluble vitamins, it should be in accordance with the amount stipulated by the country.

What's more, vitamins should be supplemented after meals. Experts point out that, if the water-soluble vitamins such as folic acid, vitamin B and C are taken with an empty stomach before meals, they will quickly enter into the small intestine through the stomach and be absorbed. As a result, before they are completely utilized by the body, part of them has been excreted out of the body with the urination. In addition, for some fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A, D, E, K, only when they are dissolved in the fat foods, can they be absorbed by the body. If taken with an empty stomach, most of the fat-soluble vitamins can't be dissolved, which will make them can not be absorbed by the body.
